Objectcube
to Offer Turnkey DRM Solution with Source Code
By: Tripp Daniels
TORONTO, Jun 09, 2005 – Online video solutions
provider Objectcube has begun shipping a turnkey DRM
solution that includes the application source code.
By shipping source code with its
application, Objectcube’s goal is to provide
webmasters and content producers much-needed flexibility
by freeing them from any single DRM solutions provider.
When a producer or website encrypts its content using
a third-party provider’s DRM URL, it is at the
mercy of the DRM provider. The producer or website
has no control over the situation if the provider
goes out of business or raises the price of licenses.
Objectcube’s turnkey DRM solution gives website
owners a ready-to-go setup that is installed on a
Windows 2003 server with a MySQL database. More importantly,
the client gets the source code for the DRM application
and access to the database that holds the DRM keys.
This allows the client to change the software or add
new functions as needed.
"Our solution means that no one will be forced
to relinquish ownership of their content to a DRM
provider,” said Objectcube Chief Technology
Officer Jay Janarthanan. “Unfortunately, that’s
what firms are forced to do when they DRM a movie
or music using a third-party provider’s DRM
URL and then get locked in for the rest of the content’s
life cycle.”
He added, “Customers are the mercy of the DRM
provider, and if the provider goes out of business,
the content also stops working – and that leaves
a lot of angry end users.”
Objectcube’s staff of DRM developers can customize
the DRM system based on customer requirements at any
time. In the event the customer decides to work with
another provider, they can easily do so because they
have access to both the source code and the database.
Objectcube charges only a one-time fee for its solution.
